BIOGRAPHY
David Geerts helps people bring human-centred thinking and ethical AI into real-world practice. He turns complex concepts from research and funding programmes into clear, actionable steps teams can use the same day. His teaching combines deep expertise from 28 years at KU Leuven, Europe’s most innovative university, with hands-on experience using generative AI ethically over the past three years.
David teaches from lived projects, not abstract theory. As senior research manager of KU Leuven’s Digital Society Institute, he led work on responsible, ethical and sustainable technology. He has designed and delivered training on human-centred design, digital ethics and the responsible use of AI, guiding teams to match innovation with inclusivity. In recent years, he has applied tools like ChatGPT in real proposal writing, evaluation, and project design, always with clear quality checks, transparent sourcing, and alignment to European Commission rules.
His courses give participants practical, transferable skills they can apply immediately, whether that’s analysing a funding call with AI, designing an ethical technology strategy, or improving collaboration in interdisciplinary projects. He focuses on building capability that lasts beyond the session, so people leave not just with new tools, but with the confidence to use them in their own context.
Teaching gives David energy. He especially enjoys the moment when participants realise they can work faster, smarter and more ethically and their enthusiasm for using generative AI starts to grow. He hopes to spark that same passion and involvement in every participant, and it’s what drives his commitment to teaching.
